CityDance - an outreach program of Alabama Ballet, brings
dance education into elementary schools and the community,
providing children with the opportunity to learn about all
aspects of the art form. The children, taught by Alabam Ballet
teaching artists, learn the basics of ballet, jazz, hip hop,
praise dance correlation and event explore dance imaging concepts
modeled after the Liz Lehrman Dance Exchange.
the
benefits of the outreach program extend beyond exposing children
to the arts. Dance education improves learning, specifically
math, and develops social skills as well as building self-esteem.
The arts also benefit from this outreach program because it
brings in new talent that otherwise might never have made
its way to the ballet class. Tracey Alvey, Alabama Ballet's
Artistic Director, "If we didn't have CityDance, we might
miss the next star." Alabama Ballet wishes to acknowledge
the generous sponsorship of Regions Bank in making this program
possible. This program operates: Sept 15, 2008 to Mar 6, 2009
with Workshop held Aug 24, 2008 and Special Performance Sat.
